Emily and I conceived our Video Album project before we conceived our first child. Now Walt is six months and our video album is almost done. We thought of the concept while we were on tour, thinking we really need to have some decent videos of us playing live. Around that time we were influenced by the work the Mason Jar Music folks were doing and met some of them while giving a talk at Calvin College's Festival of Faith and Music.
The goal was to record and film (live) a song a month over Emily's pregnancy and then a tenth song with the baby. Well, we wrote ten songs but the baby and technical elements didn't all arrive so evenly spaced. Most notably Walter showed up a month early a couple days before we were going to film the second half of the album. Our second shoot day involved a one-month-old Walter with his patient grandparents sharing our apartment packed full of sound and video equipment. Walt made his film debut on Miriam & Moses, hearing his dad play the accordion.
We've know J Scott Hinkley (audio recording and mixing) and Michael Markham (video recording and editing) for some time and have even collaborated together, but this was our first time doing this kind of project together. We love these guys; they did a superb job and soon we will be able to share!
Spark & Echo In the Clocktower will be our in June 2014!
